CELCAA promotes the interests of the European agricultural and agri-food traders at the European level towards EU Institutions as well as towards other associations representing other sectors of the food supply chain.
CELCAA was founded in 1979 by major European sectoral trade associations involved in retail and wholesale of agricultural and agri-food products, to join forces and cooperate on a horizontal level. Horizontal co-operation is more crucial than ever, as legislative developments increasingly have cross-sectoral effect. CELCAA advocates for agricultural and agri-food traders by its presence in various consultative groups of the European institutions. A network of different platforms and round tables has been built up to communicate and share views with other interest groups of the food chain and the civil society. CELCAA is also a member of the EBAF (European Board on Agriculture and Food), the expert group chaired by the Commissioner for Agriculture and born out of 2024's Strategic Dialogue on the future of agriculture.
